If we can help make one person’s cancer journey easier, then it was worth creating this Guide.

About

When I decided to write The No Bull**** Guide to Dealing with Cancer, it was to fill the gap I found when I was first diagnosed in 2008, and again nine years later in 2017. Though there are many nice memoirs and plenty of medical books in the “cancer” section of most booksellers, I didn’t find any quick guides telling me what was coming and how to prepare. I had a mountain of things to learn and not much time.

  • I wanted honesty.

  • I wanted clarity.

  • I wanted brevity.

  • I wanted utility.

And that’s what I decided to create for all the other patients out there in need of the same.

Once I began, I was fortunate enough to meet Dr. Mercedes Castiel, an expert in survival care and cancer patient support. A practicing OB/GYN who’s dedicated her career to supporting women at risk for, or battling active cancer, and the founder of The Cancer Care Concierge, Mercedes had also begun writing a book. It took only minutes of conversation to know I’d found my teammate in this effort.

The No Bull**** Guide to Dealing with Cancer is our collaboration.

Resources

In addition to the Guide, we have also created the Blog on this website with information for those in the “Maybe Cancer” category (pre-diagnosis), those who have been newly diagnosed, and the loved ones of those in either group.

When you’re seeking answers to basic questions, we want to make them available quickly and in a simple, conversational manner. You shouldn’t have to have a medical degree to get simple answers to your questions. We’ve done the best we can to answer the most commonly-searched questions on the internet in everyday language, as well as point you toward other trusted sites where you can learn more.

We do NOT offer any medical advice.

We give suggestions for how to navigate the many twists and turns of this journey, including those that have nothing to do with medical decisions. We will continue to add to this Blog as we learn more from the community about what is most helpful.

In addition, we have created a Resources page, where we’ve pulled together links, articles, and tools you can utilize in your research and preparation for the journey ahead.
